Mini-me surprise for bride-to-beBy Laura Herbert

A lovestruck Romeo recruited a model maker to help him propose to his girlfriend by recreating her in miniature.
Andy Kessock-Philip took a trip down memory lane when he asked Lauraine Crowcher, who works at Bekonscot Model Village in Beaconsfield, to build mini figurines of him and girlfriend Liz Wardale, 27, in an attempt to surprise her with a marriage proposal.
The 28-year-old fondly remembered trips with his grandparents to see the models, so decided to pick the miniature venue in Buckinghamshire to pop the question.
Mr Kessock-Philip, of Cambrian Way, in Finchampstead, said: “I’d contacted the team at Bekonscot a few weeks before to see if they could make me models of us, as a bride and groom with a plaque.
“I remembered visiting the village and Liz loves fun things like this.”
But he didn’t expect there to be quite so many churches in the village. He added: “It was nerve wracking. I kept looking to see what church the model was outside of. It was like Where’s Wally. In the end Liz spotted it first.
“She pointed it out and asked what it was, but when she turned around I was already down on one knee. Liz always said she would know when I was going to propose, but I caught her by surprise.”
Mr Kessock-Philip got down on one knee at the model village on and Miss Wardale said yes.
Mrs Crowcher said: “I’ve been doing this for about 15 years and I’ve never had this request. I couldn’t really say no, but I warned him I’m no Madam Tussauds.
“I had some of the pieces like the morning suit already so that was easy, but for the bride I created it from scratch.”
It took nearly two weeks to make the replica bride and groom which were placed outside the model of St Teresa’s Church for the couple to find.”
Andy, who is hoping to get married next year, said the team at Bekonscot had been really helpful and were excited to be part of his proposal.
He added: “We’ll always remember it. We’ve been taking the model around to our friends to show them. Everyone wanted a look as it’s so unique.”
