'Marvellous' George Major launches Pride of Britain

July 09, 2012

Super fundraiser George Major was on ITV 1's Daybreak programme this morning to help launch this year's Pride of Britain awards.

The seven-year-old, who collected his Young Fundraiser of the Year honour last year, has brought in more than £40,000 for the Royal Berkshire Hospital and children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

His heartfelt effort started after George, of Repton Road in Earley, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2009.

During a stay in Royal Berks he thought there were not enough toys for children who could not get to the playroom. He and his family launched George's Marvellous Medicine Fund, which has benefitted the hospital and now rolled on to George's Extra Marvellous Medicine Fund for CLIC Sargent.

George, his mum Vikki Harrington and granny Julia Eversham joined Fiona Phillips on the Daybreak sofa for the launch. The programme was hosted by Kate Garraway and John Stapleton.

There is a lower age limit of 12 to carry the Olympic torch unfortunately.

Well done George! You make us all so proud of you. Roll on the end of August :-) xxxxxxxxxxxx

George has been on the news, in newspapers and has helped our local hospital! It's people like him who deserve to be recognised for their efforts - and I'm glad he got the ward last year. A truely inspiring young boy! How come he isn't carrying the torch?!

Here's someone more news-worthy than some gay rights campaigner begging all to dress like her for support

WELL DONE George and best wishes for future efforts
