A flag flew high above Wokingham on Saturday to mark Armed Forces Day.

Saint Sebastian Wokingham Band played music in Market Place between 11am and 1pm, with the Union Flag raised at midday.

Wokingham Town Deputy Mayor Councillor Martin Bishop met two Second World War veterans and addressed the watching crowd.

Cllr Bishop said: “I was pleased to see quite a number of people came. It was an honour to have the chance to say a few words to recognise the contribution made to the country by those who serve in the Armed forces.

“The day is a terrific opportunity for the area to show its appreciation.”

An Armed Forces Day flag was flown at the Civic Offices in Shute End in the week leading up to the event.
