Amy delivers Naomi House Hospice's rent of roses

A young disabled girl helped pay the “rent” to a charity which has helped hundreds of children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

Amy Collins, 11, from Crowthorne, visited the Naomi House Hospice in Winchester on Thursday, June 21, to present a bouquet of 15 red roses to founder Mary Cornelius-Reid and her daughter Naomi, after whom the hospice is named.

Almost 20 years ago, Mrs Cornelius-Reid donated some land next to the care home she owns after the charity struggled to find a suitable location.

She said the charity could have the land on two conditions.

The first was that it was named after her daughter Naomi and the second was that the rent of 12 red roses was paid every midsummer’s day.

Amy, who stays at the hospice for respite care, said: “I would like to thank you on behalf of everyone at Naomi House, for allowing this beautiful place to be built on your grounds.

“I like coming to Naomi House because it’s fun, they look after me really well and the staff take me out to go ice skating, shopping, bowling and lots of fun things.”

Amy was joined by her parents, trustees of the charity and the Naomi House care team as she made her presentation.

5years ago I done a sky dive and was sponsored for Charity all money I raised was for Naomi house. I was lucky enough to go and hand the cheque over in person, and have to say the experience was an roller-coaster. Was such a beautiful place and the work the staff do is amazing. However the butterfly room was something I couldn’t accept going in to! But if anybody likes donating money to a very worthy charity this is defiantly one!!
