A woman is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for the Alzheimer’s Society after she lost her grandad to the disease.

Hurst resident Victoria Kendall will embark on an 11-day trip to Tanzania next summer where she will climb the highest freestanding mountain in the world.

She is aiming to raise more than £4,000 for the charity.

“In 2007 I lost my gramps Doug after a long battle with Alzheimer’s,” she said.

“In 2008, I then lost my gran Edith who was suffering with the onset of dementia.

“They were incredible parents, grandparents and great grandparents and they are sorely missed by us all.”

The 25-year-old, pictured left, has organised a car boot sale at Lea Farm, Hurst, from 9am to 3pm on Sunday, July 1, with the Chocolates for Chocoholics shop opening its doors for a one-off summer sale.

Entry is £1 for buyers and £5 for sellers. All proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Society.
