Hats off to Reading milliner on Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day

By Linda Fort
June 22, 2012

Hats off to this elegant group heading for Ascot races on Ladies’ Day.

From treble clefs to piano keys, all their headgear had a musical theme.

The hats were made by milliner Adrienne Henry, centre, who runs Adrienne Henry Millinery in Harris Arcade, in Reading town centre.

She and corset designer Lyndsey Clark will be holding a fashion show of clothing and accessories – including corsets and hats – at pentahotel tonight to launch Reading Arts Week.

But yesterday they were making their way to Ascot Races and were betting on a day of fun.

When getreading caught up with Lyndsey from Emmer Green at the racecourse, she said: “We haven’t placed any bets yet. At the moment we are just eating the hog roast.”

The friends decided to adopt a black and white theme for their dresses – but why the music theme for the hats?

Lyndsey said: “It was just something that came into Adrienne’s head.”

The two women became friends when Lyndsey was working at another shop in Harris Arcade.

As well as the fashion show tonight, there will be another catwalk show in Caversham Court Gardens on Friday, June 29, organised by the two designers. It forms part of the day-long Big Picnic event for Reading Arts Week.

- Ascot has seen minimal public order incidents so far. The only arrest on Wednesday was a 45-year-old man from Tilehurst for being drunk and disorderly. He was issued with an £80 penalty notice.

It seems the term elegance has been redifined. Why am I always the last to know?
