The first day of Royal Ascot kicked off in style with hats galore and some top racing.

Frankel cemented his place as the world's top racehorse when he claimed his 11th successive win by triumphing in the Queen Anne Stakes.

He won by an incredible 11 lengths in the opening race.

The new stricter dress code proved popular with a lot of racegoers and anyone flouting the guidelines was dealt with discreetly by a team of dress code assistants.

Police reported there were no arrests on the first day of the five day meet at  Ascot racecourse and that the second day was going smoothly so far.

Supt Andy Standen, who is the Silver Commander of the policing operation, said: “The first day of Royal Ascot went very well.

"There have been no significant issues or incidents, minimal crime and the crowd has been well natured.

“We have also had a successful joint operation working with staff from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to disrupt street trading, which has been a problem in recent years.

“Traffic has been heavy in the surrounding area at peak times but nothing beyond what we would expect during an event of this size.

“I would like to remind anyone thinking of attending the racing over the next few days, who does not have a ticket, that they should not buy tickets from touts. You run the risk of spending a lot of money and not being allowed entry to the racecourse.”
