Vandals smashed their way into an empty house on a derelict school last night and started a fire.

The yobs pulled boards away from the empty caretaker's house on the former site of Garth Hill College in Sandy Lane.

After getting the boards off the windows, they smashed a window and got inside.

Once inside, they lit a fire in one of the bedrooms.

Fire crews from Bracknell and Camberley headed to the site in Sandy Lane, just outside Bracknell town centre, at around 8.45pm, to find the fire spreading through the building.

A firefighter wearing breathing apparatus and using a hosereel went in to extinguish the fire,

Firefighter Steve Blackman from Bracknell Fire Station said: "We got there at the right time, another hour or so and the building would've probably burnt down."

They left after about an hour.
