Woodley Carnival on Saturday

June 07, 2012

The stage is set for a bumper carnival day in Woodley this Saturday.

The annual Woodley Carnival, held at the Memorial Field in Headley Road, will feature a procession, skateboarding competition and classic car show.

Live bands will be performing in the carnival celebration concert with Abba tribute show Platinum returning to headline the event.

Event organiser Peter Jacobs said: “We’ve got a packed carnival schedule this year. There’s more on offer than there’s ever been before. I’m really excited about seeing the bands. Each year our bands seem to get better and better.

“It’s great to have the community come together and create such a great atmosphere.

“The procession is shaping up well. We’ve got some walking entertainment this time, which is something different and I’ve heard there are going to be some ladies pushing prams for charity.”

The procession leaves Comet Way at noon and weaves around the town before arriving in Loddon Bridge Road.

Gates at Memorial Field open at noon, with music and entertainment starting at 1pm and continuing through to the fireworks at around 10.30pm.

A new addition this year is a skate-off at the Memorial Ground skate park.

“The skate competition is just a brilliant idea,” Mr Jacobs said. “It’s been a really popular spot all year and to not use that space for such an event would be a real shame. I expect this could become a feature every year.”

Like all other comments. Prices too high not enough to do! Defiantly no return for your money's worth! Think I'll save my money and just listen to everything in the car park at night and watch the fireworks from there too!

As per the comments below, shame it is so expensive to get in although it is a proper community carnival unlike the pantomime they had in prospect park last week.
