Football clubs in bid to stop teenage drop-out
May 30, 2012
Football clubs in Woodley are concerned about the drop-out rate of players aged between 16 and 18.
Officials from five local teams have set up a questionnaire for players and coaches at under 16s level and are working on a summer competition to drum up more interest in the age group.
Steve Outen, of Woodley Town Council, said: “There would usually be a bit of a drop-out at this age anyway but it’s so high in each club that they’ve all been struggling to field a team.
“It’s clear that the clubs are very enthusiastic about working together to provide the opportunity for all Woodley boys and girls to participate in a well- organised, managed and coached pathway from the beginnings of football to adult participation.”
Woodley Town FC, Woodley Saints FC, Woodley Wanderers FC, Woodley Hammers FC and Woodley United Ladies FC have all entered discussions to rectify the situation.
