Pupils stride out for walking week

May 23, 2012

School children are taking part in an interactive journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats as part of a walk to school week.

This week more than 10,000 children from 38 nursery, infant, junior and primary schools across the borough are getting involved in Walk to School Week.

The week, organised by the Living Streets charity, encourages children to walk to school and promotes the health benefits of walking.

Councillor Keith Baker, Wokingham Borough Council’s executive member for transport, said: “I am pleased that so many schools are taking up the walking challenge again this year. It is a great opportunity for children to get active, stay healthy and help the environment.”

This year’s theme is Strider’s Walking Challenge. Children will be presented with stickers in recognition of them taking a healthier way to class and these are being used across the country to track progress of the challenge.
