Parish council’s touch of quality
May 22, 2012
Shinfield Parish Council has been awarded Quality Parish Council status.
A panel of residents worked together to put forward an application to Berkshire Association of Local Councils (BALC) for the status.
The panel was impressed by the lengths the council goes to to communicate with residents via its website, newsletter, Facebook and Twitter.
Representatives from the council received the official award on Wednesday, May 9.
Ian Clarke, chairman of Shinfield Parish Council, said: “We are delighted to be the fourth council in Berkshire to achieve Quality Status.
“We see this award as recognition that we try to do the best for everyone in our community.
“Our clerk, Jacqui Barnes, must take a lot of the credit for guiding us effectively and for the effort she put into preparing the case for Quality Status.”
The scheme was launched in 2003 to encourage professional standards in town and parish councils.
Clive Williams, president of BALC, added: “May I congratulate Shinfield Parish Council on being awarded Quality Status.
“I am sure their success will encourage many other local councils in Berkshire to follow their example.”
