"Show me a biker that doesn't speed and weave in and out of traffic and I'll show you a pig that can fly." Hugh J, Reading

That will be me then - the biker, not the pig!!! Hugh, you're probably the very driver that deliberately pulls across a motorcyclists path and makes things twice as dangerous as they already are out there - for all road users. Poor driving (and poor riding) causes accidents for everyone, but bikers and cyclists are just that much more vulnerable.

I drive and ride and I am appalled by both bad riding and bad driving. But drivers that lump all bikers into a category saying we're we're all the same and all idiots are the dangerous ones! Yes, there are bad bikers, but for every bad biker, I reckon there must be at least 20 worse drivers. Not every biker is the same, so don't big so arrogant and ignorant towards other road users!

Not connected but i got on a train at Pangbourne today with a man who was going home with 2 mountain bikes because the friend that he had been cycling with had a nasty accident and had been taken away by the air ambulance. I felt sad for this man and I really hope that his friend is ok. Any news?

Hugh J - my stepdad is a biker. He is also a police officer. He doesn't speed, and while he does filter, he rarely overtakes when moving at speed and therefore doesn't weave in and out of traffic.

On the other hand, many people who drive cars fail to use the correct lanes, fail to indicate properly, fail to look properly before pulling out, and also speed.

I personally think car drivers are much more dangerous on our roads than bikers.

I really hope this guy is OK and has a speedy recovery.

Hugh J i think you might find this article interesting - all those filtering bikers make your journey quicker http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/motorbikes/9272532/Why-commuting-by-motorcycle-is-good-for-everyone.html

And as for speeding - if they were truly speeding (as opposed to just going faster than the gridlocked cars) don't you think the Police would sit there racking up tons of fines to hit their targets ?

@Hugh J - Just where does it say that the biker was speeding?! I suggest you wait to hear the facts before making such tasteless comments.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, from a fellow biker

When will bikers slow down and realise the rules of the road also apply to them?

Again we don't have the full facts as to what has happened or why this accident occured.

So all I'll say is from one biker to another, get well soon, best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

@ Reading Biker, I completely agree with you, although I don't ride a bike I have had enough near misses in a car to appreciate the dangers for a motorbike rider such as yourself. People pay zero attention to the road markings and have no thought for what lane is correct for their desired destination. And as for the camber, it's alerady seen 1 lorry overturn, what if a car, or worse bike was next to them at the time?

The incident took place between the Coppid Beach roundabout and the m4 turn off

the accident was around 1 mile away from the roundabout on the A329M heading towards Reading-from what I saw, the bike was a total mess. I can only think of the injured rider rather than speculate on the circumstances. Hope he's receiving all the support he needs.

The new roundabout is stupid - if coming from Bracknell there is a huge adverse camber on it - try riding a motorbike round it and then say it is not stupid - plus as you say there are many people ignoring the road markings and weaving all over it.

story about RBH helipad as well http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/s/2029511_no_plans_for_new_helipad_at_rbh

So he was speeding and went straight over the roundabout?

@A Concerned Local, Reading The roundabout you refer to is not on the A329(M). The incident happened around where Robin Hood lane crosses near Winnersh.

The new roundabout is not stupid - the people who cannot read the road markings are stupid! The only time I've had issues there are with people not reading the markings/signs.
