A kebab business owner is devastated after his van went up in smoke last week.

Dilara Kebabs’ van was destroyed in a blaze at Hare Hatch Sheeplands garden centre in the early hours of Wednesday, May 9.

Van owner Mustafa Kir had an arrangement with the garden centre in London Road to park overnight on its site.

Hare Hatch workers were alerted to the fire which destroyed the van and damaged a storage container belonging to the site’s Pet Stop store.

Family friend Akif Yildirir said: “Mustafa is in shock. He’s been working in kebab vans for over 10 years and that’s his only income.

“It was a really nice van that was kept nice and clean. He’d had a brand new catering box installed only six months ago.”

Mr Kir has hired a temporary van to continue the business that he bases at a lay-by on the A4 at Knoll Hill every day.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the police.

Fire crews from Wargrave and Wokingham Road stations put out the blaze by around 5am.
