Shinfield 10k and fete raises thousands for charities

Hundreds of runners poured on to the streets this week for a 10k run.

The Shinfield 10k race attracted 678 entrants, who raced around the village lanes in the rain as the local community enjoyed a May Day fete.

Dozens of stalls entertained families at the event on Bank Holiday Monday.

The race was won by Maidenhead Athletics Club’s Michael Hiscott in a time of 32 minutes and 13 seconds, with Guy Bowles and David Lee of Datchet Dashers in second and third.

Liz Hartney of Reading Roadrunners was the fastest female in 38 minutes and one second.

The event, in its 28th year, was organised by Reading Roadrunners in conjunction with the Shinfield Association.

The race started and finished at Shinfield Health Centre in School Green and passed through the villages of Shinfield, Ryeish Green and Spencers Wood.

Profits from the run are going to the Shinfield Association and local charities. Last year more than £4,800 went to local organisations.

Shinfield Association is a registered charity that provides facilities at the Recreation Ground in Millworth Lane.
