Councils’ legal merger costs jobs

By Victoria Smith
April 20, 2012

A merger of legal teams in Wokingham and Windsor & Maidenhead has resulted in fewer management jobs and a reduction in legal support staff.

Wokingham Borough Council’s personnel committee will discuss the impact the merger with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead’s legal team has had on staff at a meeting on Monday.

The new structure reveals a loss of support staff, with management roles reduced from seven to five.

There will be salary protection for 10 staff for up to two years, but after this the salary budget for the team will reduce by £40,000.

The money-saving merger was approved in March 2010 and the service is hosted by the council at Shute End.
