A teenager from Charvil is among three people arrested by police in connection with the assault of a Shinfield man earlier this week.
The 17-year-old, along with a 20-year-old man from west Reading and 21-year-old from east Reading remain in custody at Loddon Valley Police Station following an incident in the St Mary's Butts area of the town at around 4.30pm on Tuesday, February 7.
The victim, who is 39, suffered serious head injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where his condition is described as serious but stable.
Detective Sergeant Elton Evans, from Reading CID, said: "At this stage we do not know exactly what has happened to this man.
"It appears that he may have been involved in some form of altercation that developed in to a serious assault. His injuries were at first not considered to be too serious, but he deteriorated and is now in a serious condition.
"We are taking this incident very seriously and have made three arrests. However, we still need to trace other people who may have witnessed this incident.
"We believe that it took place close to a bus stop, so it is likely that there would have been a number of people who may have witnessed this incident."
Anyone with information should call Det Sgt Evans on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
