Countess of Wessex visits Wokingham today

February 08, 2012

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex is paying a visit to Wokingham this morning - opening the town's new fire station and cutting the ribbon on a new centre at an Earley primary school.

Sophie will begin her whirlwind tour of the borough at Hawkedon Primary School to officially open the school's new family and foundation centres.

The EarleyBird and Hawkedon Foundation Centre is a voluntary pre-school which has been working with Hawkedon on establishing a purpose built unit since 2006.

The family centre  provides a base for the breakfast and after school club, self-help parent groups and community meetings. The school also organises its own courses for parents.

After touring the school and meeting pupils and staff, Her Royal Highness will head to Wokingham fire station in Denton Road to officially open the town's new station.

It has been operational since last year, however today is a chance for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service to celebrate the facility with an official opening ceremony.

The £1.5 million station is the first new fire station to be built in Berkshire in 20 years.

Re Just desserts, Her Royal Higness was in the school for 50 minutes and made a great effort to see all the children. She took the time to talk and shake hands with many of the children as well as several of the staff. She left all the children very happy and we are very proud to have been visited.

Not sure where you got your information from BUT 50 minutes is not 'a few'. The 'Lady' met or saw all the children and were left smiling and happy about the day....sour grapes???
