Motorbikes are being wrapped with tinsel and dusted with glitter ready for one of the highlights of the Christmas calendar this weekend.
Thousands of bikers are getting ready for the annual toy run, which will zoom through Wokingham on Sunday, bringing Christmas cheer to children across the borough.
Local people are being encouraged to line the route and welcome the bikers as they roll into town.
The event, organised by Reading Christian Bikers, invites motorcyclists to dress up in festive outfits and deliver presents to Barnardo’s High Close School in Wiltshire Road, Wokingham.
Those taking part go all out for the event with bikes decorated as Santa’s sleigh, reindeers and Christmas trees and riders come from all over the world to take part in the event.
Families line the route, which starts at Foster Wheeler’s car park, just south of Reading, near Junction 11 of the M4, at 1.30pm, ready to cheer and wave off the bikers when they set off on their journey at 2pm.
Each rider is asked to bring a new toy, preferably unwrapped and suitable for ages between birth and 16 years old.
Gifts which are particularly valued for teenagers include footballs, toiletries, vouchers, make-up, memory sticks, model kits, Lego and football team memorabilia.
The bikes will make their way through south Reading, Lower Earley and Wokingham to Barnardo’s High Close School where they will be met with hot drinks, a prize draw and plenty of cheers from the crowd.
The presents will be bringing a touch of festive magic to the youngsters at Barnardo’s, but other children’s charities may also benefit from the annual event.
The following roads will also be closed to make way for the procession between 2pm and 2.30pm: Outer Peripheral Road between the entrance to Foster Wheeler Energy and its junction with A327 Shinfield Road, Shinfield Road between its junctions with Outer Peripheral Road and Lower Earley Way, and Lower Earley Way.
The following roads will be closed from 2.10pm to 2.45pm: A329 Reading Road between its junctions with Lower Earley Way North and Shute End, A329 Shute End between its junctions Reading Road and Rectory Road, A329 Rectory Road between its junctions with Shute End and Wiltshire Road, and Wiltshire Road between its junctions with A329 Rectory Road and High Close School.
Drivers are asked to seek alternative routes.
