Status Quo star visits Rivermead school
March 01, 2011
A musician from top British rock band Status Quo drummed up some excitement when he went along to play for pupils at a Woodley school.
Jeff Rich, former drummer for the legendary band, impressed pupils and staff at Rivermead Primary School in Loddon Bridge Road when he gave them a drumming master class on Tuesday, February 15.
Headteacher Brian Prebble, who joined the school at the beginning of the year, said everyone was impressed by the drummer’s talents.
He said: "It was brilliant and the children absolutely loved him. I couldn’t believe how engaged he had them. At one stage he had about 50 children with different instruments all playing to the drums.
"And his own drumming skills are pretty impressive. He just had them totally motivated."
Mr Rich joined Status Quo in 1986 shortly after performing several gigs with fellow rock giants Def Leppard.
After performing with the band around the world he left the group in 2000 to spend more time with his family.
During his visit to Rivermead Primary School Mr Rich chatted to pupils and shared his top drumming tips.
The visit was part of a week of musical education and the school was also treated to a performance by the Berkshire Maestros.
