Report vandalism with council iPhone app

February 02, 2011

Smartphone owners can report graffiti, vandalism and anti-social behaviour in Wokingham thanks to a new app.

The Looking Local app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch enables residents to use a ‘Report It’ feature to let Wokingham Borough Council about problems in their area.

Users can upload pictures of vandalism or dumped cars.

Sarah Barrow, manager of Wokingham Direct at the council, said: “This app is a great way for our many residents and customers who have an iPhone to keep in touch with the council quickly and easily.”

If you are a Sky or Virgin TV subscriber or have a Nintendo Wii you can also access the Looking Local service. On Sky, go to channel 539 and press RED, on Virgin press the interactive button, select ‘News and Info’ and then select ‘Looking Local’ or on the Nintendo Wii insert www.lookinglocal.gov.uk into the internet browser.

To find the app search the iTunes application store for Looking Local.

So when you say "Smartphone owners", what you actually mean is "Apple iProduct owners", narrows the smartphone market massively with Android handsets now having more than double the iPhones market share.

Out of interest it would be interesting if GetWokingham could find out how much this app has cost the council and if they intend to develop a version for the wider Smartphone market or if it is just wanting to look trendy by having an iPhone app, because you know it's cool!
