Van driver stuck in Charvil ford

By Lewis Rudd
November 11, 2010

A van driver and passenger are awaiting rescue after becoming another victim of the Charvil ford this morning.

A black Mercedes transit van is stuck in the water, which is a tributary of the River Loddon, after its driver tried to pass through it at around 9.20am.

It is understood the driver and the passenger are still sat in the car as they await rescue from the emergency services.

The level of water is said to be around 22 inches deep after rising in the rainfall experienced overnight and in the past few days.

This video of the rescue was taken by Woodley man Mark Jones who was walking his dog when he came across the incident.

Mr Jones said: "The van driver told me he only went through because he was following two Land Rovers and they went through without any problems."

Err, given the litigious state of the nation, I think if I were 'tractor man' I might have sailed on by. [no pun intended] Imagine the insurance claims had he damaged the van, or dropped them back in the water where they could perish etc etc..

Sorry but I really have to laugh at the line – "The van driver told me he only went through because he was following two Land Rovers and they went through without any problems." I used to have a Landrover and go off road with it – through rivers / in ditches / deep mud / up-down very steep hills, never saw any van drving numpties try and follow me though Does this idiot not realise they are ‘off-road’ vehicles built to do a lot more than drive through deep water Donut!!

It's called the internet and that is what they call someone who edits a web site, all quite simple.

What a complete plonker. How do people like this pass driving tests? Should have left it there.

There was no passenger only the driver and it would of been nice if you'd at least credited the video back to me :) Luckily he was retrieved by this passing tractor driver once they had found somewhere to attach the tow rope too.
