Link charity wins foundation award

August 31, 2010

A charity offering a befriending service to isolated elderly people in Wokingham has been given the seal of approval from a national organisation.

The Link Visiting Scheme was awarded Approved Provider Standard by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation.

The charity has 120 volunteers offering friendship and support to isolated elderly people throughout Wokingham.

Marjie Walker, co-ordinator at Link, said the award proves everybody involved in Link is offering a high quality service.

She said: “We have worked so hard providing a lot of information about the quality of the service Link offers and we are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the Approved Provider Standard.”

Maxine Grimshaw, quality and standards co-ordinator at the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation, said: “The volunteers are appropriately screened and are then given relevant training and guidance.

“A careful matching procedure is in operation and ongoing support is provided once the relationships have begun.”
