Teeing off at disabled golf open day

August 27, 2010

Golfers with disabilities enjoyed a day of teeing up and working on their swing at a Wokingham golf club.

Around 15 people went along to the Disabled Golf Society event at Billingbear Park golf club in The Straight Mile, Wokingham on Monday, August 16, for a chance to have a go at the sport with some specialist equipment.

Graeme Robertson, society member and event organiser, said: “The one thing that stood out for me was the course which was superb. I have never actually played there before and I was very impressed with the condition.”

Golf club owners Martin and Jackie Blainey welcomed the players along with clubhouse manager Andy Long. Players with a range of disabilities were invited on to the green and were aided by specialist equipment like adapted golf buggies.

Star player of the day was awarded to Paul Cunningham, winner of the friendly tournament, who was left disabled after a motorcycle accident.
