Crime falls in borough

Crime in Wokingham, Reading and West Berkshire has fallen in the last three months compared to this time last year, according to latest figures.

Wokingham saw a dramatic drop in the number of crimes committed between April 1 and June 30, 2009, and the same period this year from 2,227 to 1,858, a reduction of 369 crimes.

Although most crime in the area fell, rapes increased from two offences in 2009 to six this year.

Non-rape sexual offences also rose from eight to 22 in the latest figures.

Theft from vehicles fell by 71 from 213 offences to 142, but shoplifting increased to 162 this year compared to 136 in 2009.

As with Reading and West Berkshire, no drug trafficking offences were recorded between the beginning of April and end of June this year, a decrease compared to five during the same time period last year.
