Christmas lights will make Woodley sparkle

July 22, 2010

Woodley Town Centre will be sparkling this winter if plans for new Christmas lights go ahead.

Town centre manager, Jacques Lherbier, is negotiating quotes for hiring or purchasing new lights as the previous three-year contract for Christmas decorations in the town has come to an end.

Mr Lherbier outlined plans to put lights on five trees in the town centre and around the pagoda at a meeting of the Woodley Town Centre Management Initiative steering group. The lights could be left on during dark winter nights.

He said: “It would be a lot more substantial than what we have now.”

Hiring the lights looks set to cost between £12,000 and £14,000 for the first year of a three-year plan after which they would cost between £10,000 and £11,000.

The town centre manager is in discussion with four companies who are interested in providing the decorations.
