A town centre dry cleaners which was forced to close after falling into financial difficulties has re-opened today under new management.
Barrett Dry Cleaners closed earlier this month after its owners failed to pay rent for several months, leaving the landlord with no option but to take back possession of the shop.
The sudden closure left many customers facing an anxious wait to see if their frocks and suits could be collected in time for Royal Ascot, while the same fate awaited those attending weddings or other formal engagements.
The owners of Barrett’s did manage to get the shop open for two hours on Thursday, June 17, following lengthy talks with landlord Pennicott, but since then the premises have put in the hands of new proprietor, Immy Asghar.
The Peach Street store will also now be known as Finishing Touch Dry Cleaners, and will commence trading from 9am.
Mr Asghar told getwokingham customers with any outstanding orders can now begin collecting them.
He said: “Obviously there has been a lot of disturbances within the community of Wokingham about garments for Ascot and some items still haven’t been reclaimed.
“We don’t want people to give up their faith with the company.”
