Year of road works begins

May 11, 2010

A £2.2 million year-long project to renew the gas main network in Woodley has begun.

Southern Gas Networks is replacing 12km of ageing metal gas mains and services as part of an ongoing mains replacement programme.

Work will take 12 to 14 months to complete. Most work will take place in Loddon Bridge Road, Headley Road, Reading Road, Butts Hill Road, Headley Road East and Tippings Lane.

Most work will be carried out under temporary traffic lights. A road closure will be enforced while workers are at the junction of Headley Road and Reading Road, during which time a signed diversion will be in place.

Some of Woodley's bus services may be delayed by the works.

The problem with living in Woodley is you actually come under WOKINGHAM not Reading and they are notorious for bad planning

Quite so Vestan. To my mind also, the Council should not allow such works to proceed until all utilities have confirmed in writing their desire, or not, to perform their own maintenance or whatever in that road...emergencies such as bursts are, of course, entirely seperate, but otherwise...savings (if only shared costs) are available to all agencies by such simple cooperation. Sadly, other than using the phrase, "joined-up thinking" has been scarce in Reading for many a year.

I thought the idea was while one utility company had a hole in the ground the others were supposed to be asked if they need to use their hole for any maintenance to save on this type of stop/start thing happening with roadworks.

I am sure you would be even more devastated if the gas main failed in some way and you were without gas completely.

It's inevitable, maintenance has to be done, you just have to live with it.

same old, same old. Haven't they not long had all the diversions etc for Colemansmoor? It must drive people mad who live and travel through that area.

What again???? Woodley seems to have spent the last year with traffic lights and road works - we (the people who live there) are seriously getting fed up with this...!!!
