April 22, 2010
A 19-year-old man resisted a robber’s attempts to steal his phone in Earley last week.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted robbery, which happened in Betchworth Avenue at 12.05am last Tuesday.
The victim was walking home when he was approached by a man who asked him for the time.
In response, the victim took his mobile phone out of his pocket to check and after speaking for a short while, the would-be thief attempted to force the phone out of his grip.
The victim was able to hold on and the thief ran away.
The offender is described as white, with tanned skin, 6ft tall and aged between 17 and 20. He was wearing a brown jacket that seemed quite thick and may have been leather, with cotton-ribbed cuffs and a hood, which was black. He spoke with a local accent.
