Man jailed for possessing 404 child porn images

A man has been jailed after police found more than 400 indecent images of children on his computers.

Ian Newby, 45, of Trevelyan, Great Hollands, was jailed for six months at Reading Crown Court on Friday, March 12.

Police found the images after he was arrested for an unrelated matter in December 2006.

When they searched his house, police found a number of computers which contained 404 images of children.

He was re-arrested in July 2007 and charged in February 2008.

He initially denied the charges and stood trial in December 2009, where he was convicted of seven of the 15 counts of being in posession of and making indecent images.

Detective Inspector Steven Armstead said: “Newby was found guilty by a jury after a week-long trial.

“The offences that he was found guilty of are sickening crimes and they amount to over 400 images, some of which are deemed to be amongst the most depraved.

“The fact that people make and possess such images means that young children around the world are subjected to acts of sexual violence of an extreme nature.

“The sentencing sends out a clear message that the justice system will not tolerate such behaviour.

“As a result, it is hoped that people such as Newby will be dissuaded from such behaviour and the industry that creates such images out of the sexual abuse of children will be damaged and eventually destroyed.”

Newby was also ordered to pay £3,000 costs and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

So CMA thinks the sentence should be longer - does he/she know anything of the case or is this a knee-jerk reaction ? Just because someone is found guilty, it does not mean that they actually ARE guilty.
