Reading Half Marathon pothole fears eased

March 17, 2010

Runners in Sunday’s Reading Half Marathon have been assured their route will not be riddled with potholes after concerns about potential safety issues.

Sarah Bishton, spokeswoman for Reading Borough Council, said: “In line with other years, Reading Borough Council’s highways inspectors have inspected the race route prior to the half marathon and identified areas of road that need to be repaired as a priority.

“Teams are due to carry out the necessary repairs in time for the race on Sunday.”

It's annoying enough that roads are closed for this event, but now they get the roads the run along repaired as priority while the rest of us road users have to contend with holes in the roads and paying outour hard earned cash on new tyres, suspenion and wheel alignment repairs!

RBC you are a joke.

Very noble of them. However it's nice to know that fun runners get priority treatment over and above the town's road users - we just have to put up with damaged tyres and suspension.

Oh yes, it's dangerous for runners and has to be immediately repaired, but for cyclists, motorbikes and cars it's perfectly reasonable to drive over incredibly worn out bits of road(!)

Given the amount of road left in Reading (very little) they've got their work cut out for them.
