Girlfriend’s tribute before funeral of Dave Evans

Mourners in odd socks will gather today for the funeral of Tilehurst builder David Evans.

It is believed Mr Evans, from Overdown Road, died after a limestone block fell on him while working on-site in Moulsford in South Oxfordshire.

His girlfriend of 14 months Brittany Shaw paid tribute to her “best friend” ahead of today’s memorial.

She said: “David was one of those guys who you never forget. He was always the first person when on entering a room he would introduce himself.

“He hated silences and would say funny inappropriate things to break the ice and get the conversation going again.

“He went out of his way to help people around him and tried his best to please you.

“He would not sit still for long, having lots of energy. He loved tae kwon do and was dedicated every week in practising his moves and going to class. His teacher was very proud of him.

“David was so funny and we were always laughing and making others laugh, he was quite infectious. He didn’t care what he said to people or what they thought of him, he would just blurt something out and have everyone in hysterics.

“He hardly ever could match up a pair of socks and didn’t care when he kicked off his shoes to see two odd ones poking out! He was well known for that and that is why we asked people to wear odd socks in his memory, as he would have had a chuckle.

“He was my best friend and I will miss him forever.”

Mr Evans’ funeral takes place at Tilehurst’s Mormon Church at 11.45am today.

I don't think I cried so much on Friday for a long time! It was great to see the Church and Henley Road packed full of people to say their final goodbyes.

Miss you Dave xx
