Google Street View comes to Reading

Street View has come to Reading.

Love it or hate it, the Google phenomenon has come to the town and it's garden - getreading staff have spent much of the morning looking at their homes.

From the looks of things - including the state of chief reporter Linda Fort's garden - it looks as though many of the images were filmed in May time.

My friend and his dad found the van, followed it, and this is the Result.....hahaha

IMFORMATION:

Bits of Reading have been on Streetview since just after it started but was limited to certain areas

The camera car came round our area over 2 years ago

My house is barely on it as they missed that stretch of road along with a lot of other bits in the area (you can just see it at an angle of about 60-70º but nothing more}

The stretch if road you can see was pictured early one frosty morning (neighbour scrapping his windscreen) about 2 years ago as it’s my old car parked outside, plus there has been building work in the area that stared 2 years ago and was finished 6 months back!

If you follow a route down the roads for about 2 miles it becomes a summers day (T shirts / shorts being worn) and is about 1 year ago from the clues in the views

Go the other direction and it is within the last 4 months due to work that has been performed in that area

Think that clears it up!

The Tilehurst ones were between May and July last year, as my dad looks quite thin before he died in the July.

I think it is last summer too as there is a slide in my parents garden that was brought just under two years ago. But looking at the Richfield Avenue there is no play park on the map at rivermead and the flats are not at Caversham place which is next to the BP Garage.

Streetview pictures are not the same as the normal Google maps pictures.

Streetview has Tesco on Oxford Road and normal Google maps has an open space.

On March 18, 2009, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands were added. In the case of Great Britain, until now only major centers have been uploaded and coverage of those city centers is not 100%.

How old are these pictures? Caversham Place (the flats on Richfield Avenue) aren't there & they were built in 2007

I just hope they keep these views on some kind of database for the future - imagine being able to look back at these scenes in 50 or a hundred years time.

Full marks to Google after being stressed out going through the many traffic lights at Winnersh Triangle you can now go home and do it all again prior to the lights being installed. Wonderful, please don't update for may years.

You only get Beta releases if you are on the trusted programme. It's how google trial their releases of things. I'm not, so I've only just got access to all the pics.

I like these views. It allows me to see how an area in which I used to live has changed too. I live in a really nice area, but the google street view makes it look even better. Brilliant how everyone seems to have tidied their front gardens especially :)
