All change at J11 roadworks on Monday

March 05, 2010

Traffic flow will change around junction 11 of the M4 from Monday as improvement works continue.

Drivers approaching the A33 Mereoak roundabout from Basingstoke Road, heading towards Reading, will need to turn left and use a new temporary roundabout, where they can loop back around and travel north towards the town.

Those using the A33 Mereoak Roundabout from Mereoak Lane, to travel south towards Basingstoke, will be directed left up to the main junction 11 roundabout where they can follow the A33 southbound.

Drivers travelling along the A33 can continue to cross the Mereoak junction, but those taking the northbound right turn into Three Mile Cross will have to u-turn at junction 11.

Electronic signs are in place to warn drivers.

The £65 million improvement scheme, which will eventually reduce congestion, increase public transport provision, pedestrian footways and cycle lanes, is on schedule to be completed this summer.

An access map showing the changes is available at www.reading.gov.uk/junction11.

So how the hell are we supposed to get to Basingstoke then?I know Basingstoke shopping centre is in competition with Reading but this is below the belt.

Did they even think about us living right on top of the Mereoak roundabout, of course not! What with all the noise dust and vibrations we have had to put up with, now we have to travel further if we need to use the car. In the end, we will have an extra two miles all the time put on our journey back to our homes, only the buses can use the Mereoak roundabout!

That drawing is the same picture our teacher showed us in school of the internal organs when a baby is made. She was rubbish at drawing too.

I've looked at the diagram a child drew, which Whitespirit kindly linked to, and I repeat...

You what?

Not enough traffic lights. I'm sure much greater delays could be engineered.

Ah yes, but this is the truck and bus version. Cars won't use these changes until next week. Traffic merging from the left is asked to give way at alternate hours during the day - for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All other days traffic merging from the right or already on the highway is expected to give way on these days, and have priority on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On Sundays, only trucks and buses have priority.
