Beware tale of 'lost kitten'

Residents are being urged to be alert to ruses after distraction burglars claiming to have lost a kitten under a shed stole cash and jewellery.

A homeowner in Wokingham Road, Earley, reported that a man knocked on their door last Wednesday asking to look under their shed to find a lost kitten.While they were outside another person stole jewellery and money from the house.

A police dog unit has since located the stolen money.

Police have urged residents to be wary of people who come to their doors claiming to have kicked a football over the fence or to have lost a pet.

- Police have charged a man with burglary, dangerous driving and driving without insurance in relation to the incident.

Richard Bowers, 23, of Paices Hill, Aldermaston,  was due to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
