TV viewers plagued by 'no signal' fault

February 17, 2010

TV viewers in a part of north Woodley are hoping normal service will resume this week after corroded cables put their boxes out of action.

In the last few weeks, neighbours in Hartigan Place, off Headley Road, have been plagued with television reception problems, with the message ‘no signal’ continually popping up on their screens.

Angry resident David Wright said: “It has been most frustrating. I missed Midsomer Murders and two episodes of Countryfile.”

Satellite dishes on the courtyard estate are not permitted so the signal comes from underground cabling.

Engineers from Gateway Property Management carried out work and TV pictures reappeared, but for just one day – Friday, February 5.

Southend-based Gateway then went back to the company which installed the original system some 20 years ago and was told the failure was due to corrosion of the underground cabling system.

Engineers recommended each of the four blocks of properties of Hartigan Place should have its own TV aerial, wired into the communal amplifier.

The inspection took place on Wednesday last week, it will take between seven to 10 days to carry out the work. Gateway sent out a letter apologising for “any inconvenience”.

A National Emergency will have to be declared if these people miss the "who killed Archie" episode of Eastenders.

There used to a rather excellent tv programme aimed at young children back in the 70's which was known, in short, as Why Don't You.....?

Perhaps these rather sad people should be directed to re-runs of that programme and they may find something more interesting to do than stare at a box in the corner of their room.

This is just terrible news. Maybe Alexandra Burke et al could all join forces again and release a charity single depicting one mans struggle to keep up to date with his favourite terrestrial tv programs.
