Barkham youth shelter open

February 04, 2010

A long-awaited youth shelter will finally be installed in Barkham today.

The £10,000 shelter in Elizabeth Park off The Junipers has divided opinion among people living nearby.

Some think it will be positive for young people to have a place to congregate, while others believe it could encourage anti-social behaviour.

The money for the shelter has come from a Youth Opportunities Fund grant and was successfully obtained by three teenagers.

They will cut the ribbon to officially open the youth shelter in a ceremony this afternoon.

Shame on the Wokingham Times for giving so much publicity to just three Nimby families who have lived close to the park the majority for less than a year! The park was there when the bought their houses, it is not the private backgarden that nobody else can use. We have great younsters in Barkham that need our support and do not need late comers trying to tell us wha to do with our parks, stay out of it or go back !
