Future of Woodley's buses to be discussed tonight

December 10, 2009

The future of bus services in Woodley could become a lot clearer this week when council bosses discuss the situation.

Wokingham Borough Council’s executive will hold an emergency meeting today to consider a tendering process it has put out to find new transport companies wanting to take on the routes handled in Woodley and Earley by Reading Buses.

It is hoped a deal can be reached at the meeting so the chosen company can roll out its timetables in the New Year – the time when Reading Buses proposed alterations and route changes could come in to effect.

The meeting will take place at the civic offices in Shute End at 6.30pm.

Woodley’s MP will also step in to the row over the proposed shake-up of the town’s bus services when he holds a public meeting on Friday from 7pm.

Rob Wilson, whose Reading East constituency covers Woodley, is inviting townspeople to The Bulmershe Youth and Community Centre to in Woodlands Avenue discuss any issues or concerns they have about Reading Buses proposed new timetables and routes.

Mr Wilson said: “It is important that my constituents in Woodley have the opportunity to hear about future plans for bus services from Reading Buses and Wokingham Borough Council directly and have the chance to question them on those plans.”

Although I agree with some of what you are saying cheekymunkey, part of your point is that the buses do not turn up when they're supposed to. It's quite likely these ladies had been waiting at a reasonable time for a bus that never arrived. And it's spelt audacity.

Yes you are correct, the driver is at fault here. All i am saying if they dont like how busy the bus is, get an ealier one when people are not commuting home from work. They can get a bus home any time of the day!

Be interesting to see who wins the tender. It seems they still dont want to amit that RT is right and they are runnning at a loss. I reckon Thames travel will run the routes, which will mean more segeration regarding ticketing just so the Council can flex therir muscles.

These buses have a capacity limit for safety reasons and if the buses were as packed as you say they were than it's likely they were overloaded and thus unsafe.

So two old ladies complained, quite right. Save your moaning for the bus company. Those old ladies were probably waiting just as long as you for the bus and probably equally fed up. Who the heck are you to dictate when they can go out.

Moan over

Lets hope they stick to the timetables when they are changed! 3 or 4 times last week the 64 bus running from Reading to Woodley was over half hour late, 3 number 9's and 3 63's passed but no 64! and Friday morning we waited 45 mins for the bus to arrive in that time 3 should have been passed, Packed in like sardines people standing on the stairs and right down to the back of the bus. Then Friday evening same storey packed in tight again and 2 old ladies had the audasity (no sure how to spell that one) to moan that he was letting too many people on the bus. Yes my dears you sit there in the seats comfy whilst most of us couldnt even reach a rail to hold onto so it was freestanding for all. And most of all they had been shopping all day, so if you dont work and have the audasity to moan then dont get a bus home when people are trying to get home from work. Try getting an earlier bus, you can go home any time of the day. I hope they do improve the service and timetables for the money we have to spend each day to travel with them. My moan over!
