Sex trial dropped

November 26, 2009

A Wokingham man accused of six sex offences has had the charges dropped after his alleged victim withdrew her statement.

Adrian Sykes, 45, of Emmbrook Road, walked free from Reading Crown Court on Monday after a retrial in to allegations of four counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing someone to engage in a sexual act without consent collapsed.

Sandra Beck, prosecuting, told the court how her client had been in contact to say she no longer wished to continue with the case.

Judge Anthony Wood said the lack of evidence resulted in a judicial vote of  not guilty on all counts.

No point in going to court, the damage is already done. Is it not high time to give anonimity to both parties in such cases?
