Win with the £1 hospice lotteryBy Linda Fort

The National Lottery may be offering millions but the chance of winning on a brand new lottery in Berkshire makes it a much better bet.
The new Berkshire Hospice Lottery will raise funds for the Duchess of Kent House in Reading and the Wokingham and District Cancer Care Trust.
The hospice provides palliative care for people from across Berkshire and the lottery is its latest fundraising initiative,
The charity which runs the hospice is hoping the lottery will provide a regular income to support its existing fundraising efforts.
Fundraising manager George Solly was quick to point out the advantage of buying a Berkshire Hospice Lottery ticket instead of a National Lottery ticket.
He said: “Not only does this support a very good local cause, but of course you have a much better chance of winning than you do in the National Lottery.”
To take part in the lottery, you are invited to enter a month at a time. Each ticket costs £1 and the monthly rate is £4.34, which can be paid by direct debit or by sending a cheque each month.
The lottery is offering £1,000 worth of prizes each week.
The £750 top prize, a £50 prize and five £20 prizes are awarded every week. However, a £100 prize is subject to a rollover and increases each week to a possible £5,000.
Mr Solly and his fundraisers will be at the Royal County of Berkshire Show in Newbury on Saturday and Sunday to promote the new lottery.
Mr Solly said: “We will have a teddy tombola to attract lots of people but we will then be able to explain the new lottery to anyone who would like to know about it.”
He has high hopes for the new venture.
There are a number of other hospice lotteries in other parts of the country and the most successful raise around £200,000 a year.
And now is a great time to join up, because Mr Solly does not expect the take-up to reach its peak until the spring – so everyone entering now has an even better chance of winning.
And you can buy as many tickets each week as you want.
