Brakes applied to Earley BMX track plans

July 01, 2009

Councillors have put the brakes on controversial plans for a BMX track in Lower Earley.

Planning bosses want to visit  the proposed area in Paddick Drive before deciding on the controversial application.

Earley Town Council wants to install the recreational facility on the open space.

But opponents believe such a development would bring added noise and anti-social behaviour as well as a loss of open space.

Others feel the track would result in an increase in traffic and that the allocated four car parking spaces were inadequate.

More than 121 letters of objection sent to Wokingham Borough Council were backed up by two petitions containing more than 400 signatures calling for the application to be refused. However at the council’s planning committee meeting on Wednesday last week members believed a site visit was required before making any official decision.
