Eastender Nasty Nick returns home to open Hurst Horse Show

July 01, 2009

Eastenders’ ‘Nasty’ Nick Cotton returned to his home village to open the 30th Hurst Horse Show and Country Fair.

The two-day show attracted record crowds and saw riders from all over the region compete in a number of horse events.

Actor John Altman, who was a former St Nicholas Primary School pupil, said: “It’s good to be back in Hurst, I remember days like this when it was really hot and we would swim in the River Loddon, I learnt to swim there.”

There were a number of other attractions to keep the crowds entertained including falconry displays, bell ringers and a display from Royal Berkshire Search and Rescue Dogs.

Competitor Morgan Holder, from Maidenhead, took first place in the pairs, jumping
in her first ever Hurst Horse Show.

She said: “It went really well.

“It’s a really nice day out and it’s really local with really lovely people.”

Show chairman Duncan Kendall said: “It’s been a very successful weekend with a really good number of visitors who all seemed to have enjoyed themselves.”
