Record crowds gallop to Hurst Horse Show

June 30, 2009

A record number of visitors enjoyed the Hurst Horse Show and Country Fair’s 30th anniversary at the weekend.

The hot weather saw huge numbers of food and drink sold with visitors eating more than 1,200 burgers and downing 840 pints of lager.

Riders from all over the region competedin a variety of horse events from gymkhana, pairs relaying jumping and a mini puissance (high jump competition).

A number of jewellery stalls, bell ringers, falconry displays, raffles and a display from Royal Berkshire Search and Rescue Dogs kept the crows entertained in the sunshine.

Show chairman Duncan Kendall said: “It’s been a very successful weekend with a really good number of visitors who all seemed to have enjoyed themselves.”

This year’s two-day event was opened by Eastenders star John Altman.
