Waterloo Road shuts in rush hour

By Lewis Rudd
June 24, 2009

Waterloo Road in Wokingham had to be shut for more than four hours yesterday following a power failure at a level crossing.

The failure hit the set of barriers at the level crossing in the busy road at about 11am and Network Rail engineers quickly restored power using a battery.

But later in the day during the afternoon's rush hour, the level crossing went down for more than four hours so repairs could be made.

Thames Valley Police requested the emergency closure of Waterloo Road shortly before 4pm so Network Rail and Southern Electric engineers could work on the barriers.

The road reopened at 7pm.
