A woman has been sexually assaulted near Wokingham train station.
The victim, who is in her forties, was walking along Barkham Road towards the station when two schoolboys approached her.
One of them touched her inappropriately and the pair ran away when a passing-by woman shouted "leave her alone" at them.
Detectives say they have been unable to determine the exact date of the incident despite takling to the victim.
They believe the assault took place at about 9.30am on a Monday between December 1 last year and January 5 this year.
Officers have now launched an appeal to trace the woman who shouted at the boys.
Investigating officer PC Mandy Gibson said: “At this time we have limited information about the incident but we are obviously very keen to trace the woman who intervened by shouting at the boys.
“She could obviously have information that could help us progress the investigation.”
She said the only information the police had about the attackers was that they were wearing blue or purple blazers and dark trousers.
“The victim is extremely distressed by the incident and I would urge anyone with any information to contact police urgently,” PC Gibson added.
Anyone with any information can call PC Gibsonj on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
