Rescue package for local businesses on the cards
January 28, 2009
Local businesses facing uncertain futures in Wokingham could be about to receive a rescue package from Wokingham Borough Council.
With Britain now in recession the borough council has begun putting together a strategy it hopes can be of a benefit to local shops and businesses during the economic difficulties.
Businesses could be handed a lifeline through a restructure of business rates payments and more than £300,000 of Local Authority Business Growth Incentive money sitting in the council’s bank accounts.
Members of the council’s overview and scrutiny management committee met last night (Wednesday) to consider the problems threatening the towns economic and business structure and try to thrash out solutions to these issues.
