Help with getting around town

December 29, 2008

Two new mobility scooters have hit the streets to give people with disabilities or difficulty walking a helping hand to get around Wokingham.

Wokingham Town Mobility hires manual wheelchairs and mobility scooters to people for a small fee and now has two extra vehicles.

The charity helps elderly or disabled people who cannot afford their own scooter or wheelchair, or those who have nowhere to store one.

Demand has increased by more than 30 per cent since co-ordinator Tracey Hedgecox took over in October.

Funding was raised for the scheme, sponsored by Wokingham Town Council, with a quiz night with more than a hundred supporters.

The scheme is so popular it now needs more volunteers to deliver and collect the scooters for a few hours a week.

To find out more about the scheme, contact Wokingham Town Mobility on (0118) 977 0332.
