Resource centre shuts after power failure

By Lewis Rudd
October 28, 2008

A resource centre for people with physical disabilities in Wokingham had to be closed today after building contractors cut through a power cable.

Wokingham Borough Council was forced to close Westmead Resource Centre after contractors working on a nearby housing development accidentally cut through a cable supplying power to the facility in Rances Lane on Monday evening.

A spokeswoman for the borough council confirmed the centre had not opened at all today because of a complete loss of power.

She went on to say emergency repair work has been taking place throughout the day to try and restore power to the centre which provides a range of services for the rehabilitation and respite care for people with physical difficulties across the borough.

It is not yet known if the centre will re-open tomorrow.

Centre users are asked to visit www.Wokingham.gov.uk for further information.
