Search is still on for peahen

July 10, 2008

A travelling peacock sparked a bird hunt after it was spotted garden-hopping in Finchampstead.

The Wokingham Times was contacted by Wendy Priaulx from Nine Mile Ride, who spotted the bird, called Flossy, in her garden on Friday.

The peahen (pictured) is the long-term partner of the infamous Captain Peacock, who was seen strutting around various parts of the borough two years ago.

Flossy escaped two weeks ago from her home at Stokes Farm in Binfield Road and has been spotted swaggering around Finchampstead.

Upon finding her, Mrs Priaulx called Rosemary Nolte, from the farm, who dashed out to try to capture her.

However, Flossy is smarter than the average peahen and again managed to escape.

Mrs Nolte said: “It is definitely my peahen.

“The problem is you can only really catch them at night.

“If you scare them, they fly up on to the roofs and unfortunately she escaped again.

“The captain is very quiet, he’s obviously upset at her going, so I hope we get her back soon.”

Anyone who spots Flossy can call Mrs Nolte on 07860 102242.
