It may be time for a ‘steak’ out

11/ 6/2008

A spate of meat thefts from the two biggest supermarkets in Wokingham have left police baffled.

Shoplifters have been going to chiller cabinets at Waitrose in Rectory Road and Tesco in Finchampstead Road duirng May and taking the meat out of its packaging before stealing it, according to police.

However, town centre Police Community Support Officer Roy Sully said the thefts have started to decrease.

He said: “The thefts involved offenders removing meat from the packets and hiding it before leaving the supermarket.

“I’m not sure of the reasons why they were doing it but it seems to have stopped now.”
